Where Education Is A Significant Priority
Diaza moves stealthily to the kitchen door and opens it slowly, hoping it would not creak.  He closes it carefully, then moves on tiptoes past his mother, who is busy at the stove.  Thanking his lucky stars that his mother does not have eyes in the back of her head, Diaza glides past his parents' bedroom  Since the door is ajar, Diaza peeps in.  His father is sprawled on the bed, his eyes closed.  What luck!  But, when he is halfway to his room, Diaza hears his name.
          "Diaza!" his Dad bellows.
When Diaza turns around, he finds his Dad directly in the back of him.
"Oh Dad, its you!" Diaza grins.  His father has a quizzical look.
"Oh Dad, it's you!" his father echoes.  "You sound surprised."
"Well, well..." Diaza stammers.  "I thought you were sleeping."
"Sleeping eh?  All shut eye ain sleep," his father replies sternly.  "Where you jus' comin' from?"
Diaza's father shows him the time on his watch.
"I told you before that when it gets dark, even chickens know to come home to roost.  Where you been?
Diaza stares blankly at his father, mute.  he needs to think.
"I asked you a question," Diaza father barks.  "Don't play the thing with the big ears round me cause you know I don't skylark. I'll roast you like conch!"
"Dad,Dad.." Diaza begins.  "I was hanging out with some of my friends at the park, playing basketbal and listening to music.  Nothin' wrong with that,eh, Dad?"
"No ,son.  That's fine," his father replies.  "How did your clothes get smoky?"
"Oh,that." Diaza pauses.  "Junior mother was burning some trash, so we came up with the idea to roast some marshmellows."
"So you went along with it.  Why are your eyes red?"
"Oh, I can explain that, Dad!" Diaza says suavely.  I was too close and smoke got in  my eyes...
"You rubbed your eyes and they got red," Diaza father continued.  "You think I was born big as I is.  Step this way.  Your--- belongs to the Indians!"
